Orchid Q&A#46 – Hydrating Orchids, miracle ‘potions’ and techniques & more!

Today I answer more questions about Orchids that you left in the comment section of my videos!
More info below!

Hydrogen peroxide is a relatively safe solution use in orchid growing to limit snails, pests, molds and even to aerate the root system. Don’t use higher concentrations than 3% though!

Hydrating orchids through their root systems is the most efficient way to deliver moisture. But water without oxygen is not a good mix. Waterlogged medium happens when air pockets are filled with water, learn more about it here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waterlogging_(agriculture) Sometimes there are such low oxygen levels in a solution, or in medium, that the roots don’t even absorb water and nutrients https://www.questclimate.com/dissolved-oxygen-better-growth-part-plants-need/ and other articles you can find on google

I don’t believe there is a perfect medium for each orchid, but I do believe there is a perfect medium for each person in a certain environment. I will actually make a video talking about the most popular media on the market!

Mounted orchids are fun… but hassling not for me right now, but do check my experience with them in a home https://youtu.be/1m4BeakvECc

I don’t believe there are magical and miraculous potions or techniques out there, although some people like the sensational I like basic biology. Water, air and nutrients, that’s all we need for roots to do well and grow. How we deliver that water, how constant, how much air, how salt free does the medium strays? those are the tricks we need to master. Additives can improve things, but basic stuff, such as.. growing ok, nothing more.. is obtain through basic things plants need.
